Originally part of the greater Etosha Game Reserve, Onguma is one of Namibia's best kept secrets. On more than twenty thousand hectares of prime hunting area you will experience the pulse of Africa.

Age-old migration routes, once used by elephant, black rhino and buffalo, follow Onguma's three dry riverbeds.

Species such as kudu, giraffe, eland, oryx, hartebeest, zebra, impala, blue and black wildebeest, springbok, duiker, steenbok and the diminutive Damara dik-dik roam freely on the farm. Predators including lion, leopard, hyena, lynx and black-backed jackal are common residents of the area.

More than 300 bird species can be viewed at Onguma. The farm boasts the biggest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia. During summer months, Onguma becomes a bird-watcher's paradise with thousands of birds migrating to wetlands created by the seasonal rains and river systems. This part of Namibia has been identified as one of the important bird watching sites in Southern Africa.

The local population are the Haikum Bushmen, representative of an almost extinct hunter-gatherer society of the area, the ancient San. The natural hunting and tracking skills fit perfectly into the environment of Onguma.
